Majorca’s sun-drenched capital of Palma is a verdant oasis of natural splendour and a treasure trove of cultural and historical delights. A stroll through Palma’s cityscape brings to light a relic of Majorca’s Moorish influences, and at its heart stands a stunning gothic cathedral, towering over the city’s bustling streets and squares.
My favourite feature of Palma was the beautiful contrast between soul-soothing nature and pulsating energy. Nestled along the shores of the Mediterranean, the city turns into a vibrant hub of art, dining, and nightlife as the sun sets over the iridescent coastline.
Palma’s accommodation scene reflects the city’s eclectic atmosphere, with hotels ranging from artsy boutiques to luxury spa resorts. Here are my favourite cool and unusual hotels in Palma (in no particular order)…
El Llorenc Parc de la Mar
Fronted by the sea on a quiet promenade in the historic quarter of Calatrava, this charming boutique is graced by retro 1920s-style images, walnut mouldings, and futuristic lighting.
The Moorish pieces throughout the property blissfully contrast the lush foliage and the warm neutral colours, and the result is a Great Gatsby-style opulence which exudes intimacy. I had a memorable evening at the hotel’s lavish rooftop cocktail bar, where I tucked into bistro-style snacks in a stunning city-meets-ocean backdrop.
Here, a gorgeous infinity pool is dotted by raffia-fringed emerald parasols and comfy sunbeds, radiating a laid-back island charm. My room featured an air of individuality through the bespoke fittings, which were set against a canvas of restful hues of cream, buff, and dove grey.

Becky Moore – Owner, writer and photographer
My first true adventure began as a six month voyage around South East Asia as a fresh faced backpacker and ever since I’ve lived a semi nomadic existence, clocking up visits to over 40 countries. I’m a lover of US Road Trips, deserted beaches bathed in warm glow of a sunset, Cuban mojitos, travel destinations far away from the tourist crowds and all things Scandinavian – from cloudberry liquors to Nordic noirs. When not wandering the world and running Global Grasshopper, you’ll find me walking my ex Athens street dog in leafy South West London, strolling around the Brighton Lanes on random day trips, hunting for photogenic landscapes or daydreaming about my favourite places; Havana, Copenhagen, Italy, Borneo, Finland, Greece, Berlin, Laos, California and the surreal and beautiful landscapes of a wintry Iceland.
