The largest of the three Baltic capitals, beautiful and vastly underrated Riga has often been dubbed ‘The Paris of the North.’ Adored for its thriving art, medieval architecture, tranquil parks, and glamorous street-side cafés, Riga is a city with a spirit-filled melange of history buffs, nature enthusiasts, and creative visionaries; I loved this gem of a town!
Riga’s Gothic spires blend with a striking Art Nouveau scene to create a pulsating cityscape like no other under the shadow of the iconic Freedom Monument.
Many of Riga’s centuries-old buildings now house some of the Baltic’s most charming hotels, which range from opulent quirky boutiques to unique five-star mansions. Here are my favorite cool and unusual hotels in Riga, Latvia (in no particular order).

Neiburgs Hotel
This exquisitely decorated Art Nouveau building is set on a narrow, cobbled street in Riga’s Old Town. Many of the period features, from the parquet flooring and stucco details to the restored Thonet furniture, were carefully chosen in reminiscence of the property’s storied heritage.
They are, however, harmonized with contemporary designer touches like enormous Zava Ociu ceiling lamps and Ligne Roset armchairs. I thought the service was top-notch, which made me feel at home as I sat among vintage furniture in the charming communal lobby.

Becky Moore – Owner, writer and photographer
My first true adventure began as a six month voyage around South East Asia as a fresh faced backpacker and ever since I’ve lived a semi nomadic existence, clocking up visits to over 40 countries. I’m a lover of US Road Trips, deserted beaches bathed in warm glow of a sunset, Cuban mojitos, travel destinations far away from the tourist crowds and all things Scandinavian – from cloudberry liquors to Nordic noirs. When not wandering the world and running Global Grasshopper, you’ll find me walking my ex Athens street dog in leafy South West London, strolling around the Brighton Lanes on random day trips, hunting for photogenic landscapes or daydreaming about my favourite places; Havana, Copenhagen, Italy, Borneo, Finland, Greece, Berlin, Laos, California and the surreal and beautiful landscapes of a wintry Iceland.
