The most beautiful islands of the Philippines

More off-the-beaten-track than Thailand and more undeveloped than many countries in South East Asia, this stunning archipelago is becoming an increasingly popular travel destination. Although deciding on which island to visit is not an easy task – the total number of islands that make up the Philippines is about 7,107, depending on whether it is low or high tide. Of these islands, about 4000 are inhabited. As a native, here are my choices for the most beautiful islands to visit in the Philippines…

Batanes Islands

Batanes is the smallest province of the Philippines. However, what it lacks in size it more than makes up for in amazing scenery. Batanes boasts some of the most enchanting landscapes in the Philippines. Batanes stands alone, separated from the entire Philippines by deep blue waters and is filled with majestic canyons, boulders, hills, and cliffs. On this wonderful little island, travelers can enjoy the deep blue waters, go fishing and be connected with nature once again.

Bohol Island

Have you heard about the famous Chocolate Hills? They are a beautifully surreal collection of 1500 limestone hills that originated from coral reefs during the Ice Age. Aside from this amazing spectacle of nature, Bohol is also home to thick forests where the endangered Tarsier primates make their home. Also don’t miss the island’s amazing caves and enchanting white-sand beaches.

Camiguin

Located at the northern part of Mindanao, Camiguin is a tiny island shaped like a pear. It’s a very picturesque little volcanic island sitting in the midst of deep blue waters. The volcanic activity on the island ensures you will get to see hot springs and volcanoes as well as some of the country’s finest beaches, waterfalls, mountains and forests. If you visit you should also make time to see the Sunken Cemetery, Catarman Church Ruins and many other amazing attractions.

Boracay Island

I am pretty sure that you would have already heard about this white-sand, bone-shaped island surrounded by clear, blue waters as it’s often hailed as having the most beautiful beaches in the world. It’s also home to an excellent range of water activities; scuba diving, snorkelling, parasailing, surfing and many more. The fun in Boracay doesn’t end when the sunsets. Boracay night-life pulsates, with many bars and restaurants serving food, drink and fun until dawn!

Always keep in mind that the Philippines is home to many more beautiful beaches and breathtaking islands – this list cannot include all the things that this incredible country has to offer – the Philippines is always full of surprises.

Michael Anderson

Ever since he was knee-high to a grasshopper Michael has always been a sucker for an adventure. As a kid he was lucky enough to live for many years in some exotic far flung locations and since then he’s developed a taste for new cultures. So much in fact he nows travels the world as a trading digital nomad, exploring the sizzling street markets of Bangkok to yoga retreat dotted Sri Lanka and everything in between! He also has a special fondness for craft beer, all things artisan and fine wine so certainly knows his clarets from his chiantis. He counts Cuba, Tanzania, Amsterdam, Laos and Cambodia as his favourite destinations.
