Easily one of our favourite trips from last year was a 10 day press trip to Sabah last November, one of two Malaysian states on the island of Borneo which is renowned for its incredible beauty (Lonely Planet even calls it ‘one of the most physically stunning places on Earth’)! I first fell in love in South East Asia as a fresh faced backpacker (I’m a little embarrassed to admit over a decade before) but I never actually made it to the island of Borneo and was a place I always dreamed of heading back to one day.
When I was asked to join a select group of bloggers ( Sarah & Terry Lee of LiveShareTravel, Abigail King of Inside the Travel Lab, Niamh Shields of Eat Like A Girl and Elizabeth Muhmood Kane of Bridal Musings, as well as videographers Nicolas Libersalle and Lea Amiel of Story Travelers) as part of the iAmbassador #Love Sabah campaign overseen by CEO Keith Jenkins and Sarah Lee, Director – UK iambassador, it wasn’t a hard decision to make! We were there to investigate and highlight why Sabah was a dream destination for a wedding or a honeymoon and as well as a packed adventure itinerary we got to stay in some seriously luxurious hotels.
Sabah certainly lived up to all my expectations, the place was unquestionably beautiful, filled with dewy rain forests, imposing mountains, sparkling oceans and dreamy white beaches (not forgetting the very cute orang-utans) and the campaign was a huge success. The idyllic scenery made our photographs very easy on the eye and the romantic hotels and gorgeous locations gave us some extraordinary material to work with. The campaign generated 52 million opportunities-to-see across Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and Google+ in a period of just two months.
Fast forward to November this year and we were ecstatic to find that the #LoveSabah campaign saw off some stiff competition from several big name travel magazines to win an award for the Travel Media Innovative Campaign and Content of the Year, at the most prestigious awards in the business, the Travel Media Awards 2015! So of course, we’ve been cracking open the champagne here!
