A map of the most vegetarian friendly countries in the world

With the huge rise of plant-based diets, vegetarians and vegans have never had it so good. Although as I non-meat eater I know it’s not always to travel the world with a particular set of ethics – many countries still very much centre their culture around meat and it’s not always easy to find food on the go. To help your choose your travel destination in 2018, the lovely folks at Oliver’s Travels (the unique and quirky villa specialists) have rounded up the most veggie-friendly countries around the world so your globetrotting can just be a delicious adventure.

The list takes three factors into account, the overall Global Vegetarian Index Score for each nation is based on average meat consumption per capita, the number of vegetarian restaurants available and the number of restaurants in relation to population size. Find out which countries topped the list…

This post was brought to you in partnership with Oliver’s Travels. Oliver’s Travels brings you over 1400 unique and quirky villa holidays and chateaux to rent across UK, France, Italy, Spain, Greece, Croatia, Portugal and the Caribbean.

Born in England, with a few family roots from Bavaria, and a heart in Scandinavia I've always been a bit of a restless soul. My first true adventure began as a six month voyage around South East Asia as a fresh faced backpacker and ever since I've lived a semi nomadic existence, clocking up over 40 countries on trips and living in Dublin, South East Asia and Australia. I'm a lover of US Road Trips, deserted beaches bathed in warm glow of a sunset, Cuban mojitos, easy-on-the-eye travel destinations far away from the tourist crowds and all things Scandinavian - from cloudberry liquors to Scandi Noirs. When not wandering the world, you'll find me walking my rescue dog in leafy South West London, strolling around the Brighton Laines on random day trips, hunting for photogenic landscapes or daydreaming about returning to my all time favourite places in the world; Havana, Copenhagen, Italy, Thailand and the frozen landscapes of a wintry Iceland. Do vegetarians just wake up and realise that they don’t want to eat meat anymore or is it biological? Thanks for the map. My cousins will love this.

Great map for vegetarians – interesting that Bhutan has the lowest meat-consumption. So nice that there are so many options nowadays for vegetarians & vegans!
