7 tips on how to stay safe travelling from now on

A travel essential that has revolutionized my skincare routine

Annoyingly I’ve always had problematic skin, suffering from several conditions over my life including rosacea, broken veins, hypersensitivity and adult acne. As a very frequent traveller, I also found after each trip my skin would be much worse – flying, dehydration, dramatic changes in temperature and diet seemed to aggravate these conditions even more. After many hours spent researching and using many techniques to eventually heal, I learnt that if you love and nurture your skin – and use the right products – you can eventually achieve miracles!

My skin healing journey began with firstly changing my diet – eliminating inflammatory foods such as sugar, refined carbohydrates, gluten and dairy and adding healing and hormone balancing foods such as pumpkin seeds, olive oil and raw organic salads. I also took supplements; zinc helped clear up my regular breakouts pretty swiftly and MSM and Vitamin C helped strengthen the collagen.

I also reassessed my whole makeup and skincare routine. I changed from using high street cosmetics which contained harsh irritants and chemicals (which made my rosacea and sensitivity much worse) to only buying gentle mineral makeup made from soothing and healing ingredients. Have you checked out my blog on products you’ll always find in my luggage?

Must have skincare essentials - FOREO LUNA 2, Aveeno, Asira, Seascape

My holy grail of skincare products, in a frame.

Another important change I made was my cleansing routine. Any beautician or dermatologist will tell you that cleansing is the most important part of any skincare routine, especially when travelling. Excess heat causes excess sweat and this (as well as excess oil) can cause your pores to become clogged resulting in nasty reactions such as whiteheads, blackheads, and inflamed pimples. Also, dirt can easily build up on the surface of the skin causing blockages of the follicle, trapping sebum, sweat, and dead skin cells. So yep, cleansing is ultra-important if you want to keep your skin in tip-top condition – properly cleansing the face clears pores of debris and will prevent this nasty dirt buildup, allowing the sebum oil to reach the skin surface unimpeded and decreasing the chances of horrible breakouts!

Luna 2 Foreo review

Cleanse, cleanse, cleanse has been my mantra while travelling and the product that has transformed skincare routine on the go is the super-cute and super-efficient FOREO LUNA2. I’ve always had a fondness and admiration for Scandinavian design and the company that invented this smart little device hails from Sweden. The design is exceptional, not only does it look great but it’s made from very high quality – and durable – non-porous silicone. The silicone is also hypoallergenic and prevents bacteria build-up.

FOREO LUNA 2, is 100% waterproof, and easy to carry in a travel wash bag

The LUNA 2 is waterproof and prevents bacterial build-up on its silicone bristles.

Besides being hypoallergenic, something which is very important for travelling, it’s fully waterproof, very easy to clean and just one hour of charging lasts up to a very impressive 450 uses – so no continually having to charge while you’re on the move!

It’s also an exciting skin care gadget because not only does it cleanse very thoroughly but it also has anti-ageing technology. The facial cleansing device is has a trademarked ’T-Sonic’ technology channels 8000 pulsations a minute. The first action is to deeply cleanse the skin, lifting away dead skin cells and removing 99.5% of dirt, oil and makeup residue and the second action is lower-frequency pulsations which help diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while leaving the skin looking firmer and more elastic.

I’d like to emphasise on why it’s a sassy investment (as I’m sure most of you already have that question in mind!) – sadly your hands just aren’t effective enough at cleaning your skin deeply and effectively. For somebody who easily breakouts with a change of weather and climes, this has phenomenally reduced this annoying problem ever since I started using this snazzy little device!

Overall I’ve been very impressed with this sonic cleansing brush and since discovering it, I’ve never left home without it. My skin now feels softer, smoother and more even and radiant (even when travelling in hotter, dryer climates) and it also helps my moisturisers to absorb better. My clogged pores and problematic blackheads are also clearing.

The FOREO LUNA2 anti-ageing side with my favourite serum

There are several versions to choose from all in snazzy colours; purple is for sensitive skin, blue is for combination skin, pink for normal skin, and the green is for oilier skin. I opted for the sensitive skin version, as that’s another important lesson I learnt on my skin healing journey – only use products which are suitable for your skin type! The purple LUNA2 for sensitive skin has softer, finer touch-points so its extra-gentle on the skin. So before, I would have to limit myself to only using deep cleansing products just once a week, I can use this as part of my daily skincare routine.

How to use the LUNA2

FOREO LUNA2 - the anti ageing side

Using the anti-ageing side of the FOREO LUNA2 Sensitive

The LUNA2 – especially the LUNA2 sensitive device – is gentle enough to be used both in the morning and the evening as part of your daily skincare routine.

  • Move in circular motions gently keeping to just one area at a time, when you’ve cleansed enough on this area the device will tell you to move on to the next area via a two pulse signal.
  • Once you have thoroughly cleansed the four main areas of your face – the cheeks, the forehead etc. it will turn itself off.
  • Then you can flip the device over to the next side – the anti ageing side – and continue with this. You can apply more water again or even some serum so the device glides easier over the skin. This side will also help products absorb into the skin as well as plumping the skin to reduce fine lines. Enjoy!

This article was brought to you in partnership with FOREO LUNA2 but all my opinions and views are my own.

Born in England, with a few family roots from Bavaria, and a heart in Scandinavia I've always been a bit of a restless soul. My first true adventure began as a six month voyage around South East Asia as a fresh faced backpacker and ever since I've lived a semi nomadic existence, clocking up over 40 countries on trips and living in Dublin, South East Asia and Australia. I'm a lover of US Road Trips, deserted beaches bathed in warm glow of a sunset, Cuban mojitos, easy-on-the-eye travel destinations far away from the tourist crowds and all things Scandinavian - from cloudberry liquors to Scandi Noirs. When not wandering the world, you'll find me walking my rescue dog in leafy South West London, strolling around the Brighton Laines on random day trips, hunting for photogenic landscapes or daydreaming about returning to my all time favourite places in the world; Havana, Copenhagen, Italy, Thailand and the frozen landscapes of a wintry Iceland.
