We’re always on the lookout for trendy travel products, especially if mixes practicality and a great design. So when we were offered to try out a ‘Buff’ and review this cool piece of headwear we jumped at the chance. For those new to the concept, a Buff is versatile headwear accessory that can be used in both hot and cold climates. It also happens to be a pretty cool brand with an excellent selection of funky designs to choose from. The seamless stretchy tubes of polyester microfibre are great for travelling and can be worn up to 13 different ways for protection – including a cap, neck gaiter, headband and many more.
The Buff Headwear Review
The range of buffs available is also impressively large and seems to cover almost every adventure travel situation you can imagine; from storm protectors to thermal fleece buffs which have the ability to withstand polar conditions. Other stand-out designs include the very handy UV Insect shield (which protects against both harmful UV rays and a whole host of nasty creepy crawlies) and the potentially life saving reflective buff which ensures you’ll be seen at night and in poor light conditions. For those who like to travel with a furry pal then there’s even a buff for dogs – although I’m guessing it’s up to you whether you want to end up matching…!
It was invented by textile designer Joan Rojas who had the idea of a when riding his motorcycle in Catalonia. An avid biker, he found he always needed extra protection from the elements so the idea of a ‘multitasking bandana’ was born. I opted to try “Balm” a women’s slim fit Buff which has a pretty purple and pink retro flower design. It arrived very quickly, together with some fun stickers and a key fob – attention to detail is always a good thing!
We’re in between trips at the moment so I decided to play around with it at home and test it on a walk on the English Chiltern Hills instead. I instantly loved the design and the fact that you could use it in many different ways – my personal favourite wearing styles were the bandit style face mask and the wrist band. It’s lightweight, breathable, looks very cute on (even gaining me a compliment on the walk!) and protected my face from the bracing March winds. The only slight downside I can think of when I tried to wear it as a headband it did feel a little on the tight side. I’m guessing the larger designs would feel a little more comfortable for wearing it in this style.
Overall though I would say I’m pretty enamoured with my new funky travel accessory. In a few weeks I’m heading off to my next adventure in New Zealand and Australia and the Buff will be a very happy addition to my backpack!

17 March, 2015 at 1:49 pmI love this! On all my trips, I’m always sporting a hat of some kind (the most recent being a Panama hat!) When I’m exploring, especially outdoors, I find it useless to spend time on my hair, so covering it up seems like the best alternative! I think I’d get a lot of use out of the Buff:-)

This looks like a highly versatile, light and practical travel accessory. I might have to see what the male range is like. Can always do with a bandana 🙂
