Forgot your preconceptions of all day breakfast cafes and concrete high rise hotels, the Canary Islands are actually going through a stage of major reinvention. With its surreally beautiful volcanic landscapes, Lanzarote has always been a unique travel destination, but now it’s also becoming quite the chic retreat – especially for those in search of a bit of winter sun.
Although it belongs to Spain, Lanzarote is actually located closer to Africa so temperatures remain a balmy 21-29C all year round and is blessed with very little rain. The island is made up of 300 volcanoes with Timanfaya being the main volcano. Located in the famous National Park, it last erupted 200 years ago but remains active today hence why Lanzarote is sometimes called ‘The Island of Fire’. Scenery on the island is almost other worldly and ranges from deep volcanic craters to lunar-esque lava fields but there are also plenty of beaches and restaurants to keep the tourists happy.
Where to Stay
The Barceló Teguise Beach is a great stylish choice for those aching for contemporary surroundings and a little peace and quiet. It’s an Adults-only hotel which has been completely renovated in an avant-garde design inspired by the island’s sea, light and tranquillity.
With 26 Deluxe and Deluxe Sea View rooms, 54 Suites and one Master Suite all decorated in a stark white decor with tasteful accents, it offers the perfect setting in which to unwind with a loved one or friend. For a little extra comfort opt for one of the gorgeous ‘B-rooms’ which come complete with huge comfy beds, a hydromassage hot tub, minimalist furniture and beautiful sea views. Book into one of the suites and you can expect 24-hour room service and free Wi-Fi.
The sun terrace area is also pretty special and affords incredible views overlooking the Atlantic Ocean with plenty of relaxing sun loungers and Balinese beds on offer. There’s even a hot tub where you can relax and admire the beautiful Bay of Teguise and the Cucharas beach (which are located just a stone’s throw away).
The rest of the hotel facilities are pretty special too, with a onsite modern restaurant serving up both typical Canary Island and international cuisine (also watch out for their theme and live show cooking nights), a luxurious heated swimming pool, tasteful evening entertainment and a state-of-the-art gym. One of the hotel’s main highlight is the Wellness centre – a place where you can immerse yourself in an experience of complete relaxation with their sensations showers, Turkish bath, sauna and massage and treatment rooms.
If you’re looking for break which combines warm temperatures, stylish surroundings and plenty of peace and quiet then the Barceló Teguise Beach could be just the place you’re looking for.

26 February, 2015 at 5:14 amYa know Becky, I’ve been infatuated with the Canary Islands for most of my life. I’ve read a bit here and there but I completely whiffed that all those volcanoes are there AND that volcanic landscape. How cool! Absolutely sign me up for the The Barceló Teguise Beach and I just want to lounge and decompress right now. This post put a huge (much needed) smile on my face tonight 🙂
