The Hungarian author Frigyes Karinthy was the first person to suggest the now legendary theory of the “six degrees of separation.” Apparently everyone is only six or fewer steps away (by way of introduction) from any other person in the world or so the theory goes! The inquisitive folks at Mercure want to test this theory once and for all in a very unique and exciting competition. They’re launching the worldwide digital operation “The Six Friends Theory” which has the goal of leading to an unprecedented human experience combining the power of social media and face-to-face encounters.
They are going to invite the lucky winning candidate to travel around the world on seven week trip planned for March 2015. The end destination will be Australia to meet an Aboriginal from the Bundjalung tribe. Before this encounter, they will be flown to 6 different exciting destinations, where they will meet 6 new people, each time linking them to the Aboriginal. The experiment will aim to prove that there are only 6 degrees of separation between the two.
