Mercure Hotels shares its “Local stories” with you

Have you ever stayed in a hotel where it’s felt a bit bland compared to all of the culture surrounding you on your doorstep? Well if so, you’ll love Mercure Hotel’s new ‘Local Stories.’ The locally inspired hotel brand have come up with a very cool idea to make sure all their hotels are directly influenced by the city they are based –  from local legends to popular stories – both in the look and feel of the hotel and even the food and beverages too.

Stay at one of their hotels and you’ll have a direct insight into what makes the city really tick. They’ll provide an important insight into the culture, history, quirks and hidden treasures of each area you’re visiting either from on a street corner, around a building or simply by looking up. Who needs a tour guide..?

For example in Bristol you’ll find out about myths about local Giants and unicorns, in Edinburgh you’ll learn out about mysterious local walls and whale jawbone pillars (who knew?) and if you visit the London based hotels you will learn of stories that include the ravens of the Tower of London and the smallest police station in the world – a unique Trafalgar Square sight that is routinely ignored by the masses!

So every time you stay at a Mercure Hotel, you will enjoy a new and distinctly local experience. We always love an innovative travel campaign especially if it adds value to a travel experience and thinks a little outside the box! To accompany the campaign they have a dedicated interactive web page so you can learn about the obscure and unique experiences in travel destinations all around the world or even decide where to stay based on the local story.  If you visit the website, at the moment stories featuring London, Bristol and Edinburgh hotels are available but this is set to expand by June to feature over 190 stories from over 80 locations around the UK.

Enjoy your local stories!

Looking for an alternative to a hotel in London?

There are many interesting accommodation options in London and of course thousands of hotels to choose from but if you’re someone that prefers to stay in a more local way, meeting new people in a home away from away kind of atmosphere then a short let in London could be the way forward for you! For example, you can rent a room in someone’s home for a lot cheaper and have a lot of interesting times too! This is a great way to experience the city!

Born in England, with a few family roots from Bavaria, and a heart in Scandinavia I've always been a bit of a restless soul. My first true adventure began as a six month voyage around South East Asia as a fresh faced backpacker and ever since I've lived a semi nomadic existence, clocking up over 40 countries on trips and living in Dublin, South East Asia and Australia. I'm a lover of US Road Trips, deserted beaches bathed in warm glow of a sunset, Cuban mojitos, easy-on-the-eye travel destinations far away from the tourist crowds and all things Scandinavian - from cloudberry liquors to Scandi Noirs. When not wandering the world, you'll find me walking my rescue dog in leafy South West London, strolling around the Brighton Laines on random day trips, hunting for photogenic landscapes or daydreaming about returning to my all time favourite places in the world; Havana, Copenhagen, Italy, Thailand and the frozen landscapes of a wintry Iceland.
