The best hotels to stay in Memphis USA

When you ask for the “best” hotel in an area, it gives me pause. When it comes to Memphis, Tennessee, the best hotel could mean many things. So, before I can give you recommendations about the great hotels in downtown Memphis, we need to have a bit of conversation.

Why are you coming to Memphis?

Memphis enjoys many vacationers, historians, and music lovers annually. These are people who want to experience the charm of the Blues of Beale Street or the world-famous Bar-B-Que that is smoked in the Memphis In May competition every year. They want to see the Pink Palace Museum and Graceland, and many more famous Memphis attractions.

People want to see the National Civil Rights Museum and to teach their children about the struggles of racism. They want to see the spot where Martin Luther King Jr. was shot, and the sacrifices that began to change the world.

For fun, love, and romance

Beale Street Memphis

For fun seekers, we recommend The Peabody Hotel. The beautiful hotel was built in 1869 and she is often called “South’s Grand Hotel” A recent renovation gives you 5-start treatment including, spa, hair, and nails. The Peabody has 5 resident ducks. The resident ducks march to the fountain in the lobby every day at 11 AM and 5 PM.

The renovations provide plenty of room for large business meetings (business centers available to help you prepare or perform daily assignments). They also have event rooms and gardens beautiful enough for a grand wedding.

Business

Aerial Memphis

Memphis is a shipping hub for major corporations. That means Memphis is a destination to and from corporations around the world. A hotel with a state-of-the-art business center and meeting rooms that will accommodate a large group of people are a bit different than a historical hotel that wow’s you.

Downtown Memphis has the perfect hotel for business travelers. The Doubletree by Hilton, Memphis has all modern amenities, spacious rooms designed for up to four people per room. The travelers receive free meeting planners, and free breakfast. The meeting rooms are designed for up to 300 people.

However, when the meetings are over, the Doubletree by Hilton is just a short walk to Beale Street where the famous Blues singers and bars are. They have a good chance of meeting someone famous! The hotel is also walking distance from the Red Birds Stadium if they want to catch a ball game. As for the meeting planner, they will enjoy the low prices and no required deposit.

Unique Luxury or Business or Both

There is a hotel in downtown Memphis that is unlike any other. It is called Big Cypress Lodge. The Big Cypress Lodge is on the top of a 322’ glass pyramid. The lower floors are Bass Pro Shops with restaurants, a boat dock with the Mississippi River allowing boats to dock into the building. There are displays of all kinds of sports. There are several snack bars and places to grab a burger but then there is fine dining. The Big Cypress Lodge is beautiful and luxurious. The view from your balcony of the Mississippi River overlooking the Memphis/Arkansas bridge is lovely, or you will see a nice view of downtown Memphis. No matter where your room is located, the glass pyramid sparkling in the morning sunshine is breathtaking.

This hotel is fairly new. There are all the amenities needed for the business or personal traveler. This includes space for large meetings and group rates for guests. Foodservice can be arranged. This hotel, shop, and combination of businesses is a “something for everyone” experience.

Hotel Napoleon Ascend Hotel Collection

Hotel Napoleon

This hotel is on the National Registry of Hotels. It was built in 1902 by Napoleon Hill. The hotel has modern amenities but vintage decor everywhere it was placed. The hotel is lovely and priced competitively. Besides its historic value, Hotel Napoleon Ascend Hotel Collection is within walking distance of Beale Street, shopping, Red Birds Stadium, and Front Street (for Memphis in May).

There are other areas of Memphis you can enjoy that have business or personal accommodation. If you find the time, catch a shuttle and visit midtown. You will see some beautiful homes and find some of the friendliest people there. Then you will experience Memphis. Because, until you have had a glass of sweet tea with a true Memphian, you have not experienced Memphis. There is one thing you can count on when you get to Memphis, you will find a nice place to stay.
