The best nightclubs to party in Berlin

Berlin is a haven for techno and minimal music lovers. The city is full of some of the best clubs in Europe and all the big-name DJs have put in at least a few nights here. Visitors flock to the German capital for the underground vibe which the city does so well. Berlin clubs range from the sleek and expensive to the dark and grimy (but in a good way!). Here are the best nightclubs to party in Berlin…

Berghain & Panoramabar

Nightclubs in Berlin - Berghain Panorama bar

Berghain is well known as the club capital of techno. It’s the mecca for all techno house, Detroit techno, and minimal techno lovers. Located between Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain in a former power plant, Berghain has an 18-meter dance floor and enough space for 1500 guests. Upstairs the Panorama Bar’s tall windows look out over East Berlin. The rest of the industrial-style warehouse club is filled with the most hardcore crowd in the world who’ve all queued for hours to get their spot on the floor. Golden Gate

Golden Gate Nightclub Berlin

When you find your Berlin hotel, you’ll need to search to hunt down Golden Gate – it’s near the Jannowitzbrücke train station and in the premium clubbing area near the River Spree. Once you’re close you’ll hear the bass pumping to guide you the rest of the way. Stop when you find a graffiti-covered building and you’ll have found Golden Gate. It’s always been a favourite venue for local Berlin DJs but it’s not unusual to see some of the big names on the listings either. This is Berlin, so expect minimal, techno and breakbeats. Don’t expect too much from the toilet situation though – this is very much underground Berlin. Golden Gate – Dircksenstraße 77, Mitte

Salon – zur wilden Renate

Salon - zur wilden Renate Berlin

Think skanky squat party mixed with exclusively cool freaks, ravers, hipsters, gorgeous girls and gay guys. Renate gets away with a super strict door policy because it’s literally the coolest nightclub in Berlin. Housed in a two-story abandoned building the club has been lovingly restored to feature original WG interiors, a ping pong table and bespoke chintzy decorations. ‘Nights’ here can easily last 24 hours as the party continues throughout the open art space and three music rooms. You’ll find the club just yards from the S Train tracks near Treptower Park and the River Spree. Salon Zur Wilden Renate – Alt Stralau 70, Friedrichshain

Nightclubs in Berlin - Watergate on GlobalGrasshopper

It’s a firm tourist favourite and a legendary venue in clubland. Electro legends flock to play to hungry ravers who want to party the night away. Expect the house, breakbeat, drum and bass beats the club is famous for. You’ll love the floor to ceiling glass windows on the downstairs floor which overlooks the River Spree and the Oberbaumbrucke. On the outside terrace you can experience raving on the water on the decked platform – stay outside long enough and you’ll see one of the most incredible sunrises ever. The minimalist décor on the main floor is lit up by a technicolor lighting installation covering the ceiling. Make sure you’re dressed for the occasion though – or you won’t get in!

Who said that when you’re new in town you’ll definitely have a hard time catching up with the place? Well that’s not true when you go to Berlin because they have wonderful spots and people. You will definitely be proud to say I’ve been to Berlin!

I have been to Watergate friends 3 months ago, and I could say that I never felt a bit of boredom when we were having fun that night. Plus! I met my new apple of the eye in Watergate.

I am so lucky that a friend gave me your site because I am going to Berlin next month for a 2 months vacation and visit my mum. Now I have the idea on what’s the best place to go for nightlife in Berlin.
